July Auto Sales in Line as General Motors Outsells the Competition


General Motors was the top seller out of the U.S. automakers last month, reporting its best July sales since 2007 -- selling more than 256,000 vehicles, a 9.4% year-over-year increase. Toyota was the number two seller in July, with U.S. sales that rose nearly 12% to more than 215,000 vehicles. Ford reported its best July in eight years, with sales that climbed 10% to more than 212,000 vehicles, putting it in third place. With about 65% of the industry's results reported, Bank of America Merrill Lynch analysts calculated July's light vehicle industry's seasonally adjusted annual rate to be tracking 16.7 million units, in line with consensus.
