Chairman Ben Bernanke says markets are more stable now that investors better understand the Federal Reserve's guidance on when it might start reducing its bond purchases. The U.S. Senate voted to move toward approving Fred Hochberg for a second term as president of the U.S. Export-Import Bank, which will have to stop-conducting-business-next-week unless Hochberg is confirmed. Stocks edged higher in early trading on Wall Street after several major companies reported earnings gains and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said the central bank had no firm timetable for cutting back on its bond purchases.
