Latest Business News: Stocks Edge Higher, Extending a Hot Start to July

Boeing helped the stock market edge higher, extending a scorching start to July. The plane maker's stock was one of the standouts as the Standard & Poor's 500 index moved higher for an eighth straight day, putting it on track for its longest streak of gains since January. Fed Governor Daniel Tarullo questioned the latest congressional plan to break up big banks, saying it is unclear whether such a move would prevent the next financial crisis. Tarullo, who has been the agency's point man on financial regulation, said regulators should instead crack down on short-term funding methods that leave banks susceptible to runs. Hewlett-Packard Co. has named three new members to its board, including former executives from McDonald's and Microsoft, as it forges ahead with its turnaround push. The company said that it appointed former McDonald's CEO Jim Skinner; Raymond Ozzie, former chief software architect at Microsoft Corp.; and Robert Bennett, former president and CEO of Liberty Media Corp.
