Ahead of his inauguration, Iran's new president called Israel an "old wound" that should be removed, while tens of thousands of Iranians marched in support of Muslim claims to the holy city of Jerusalem. Rebels sent a wave of rockets slamming into regime strongholds in the central city of Homs triggering a succession of massive explosions in a weapons depot that killed at least 40 people and wounded dozens. Syrian President Bashar Assad greeted his troops in a tense suburb of Damascus to mark Army Day and pledge victory over rebels fighting to topple him.
