President Barack Obama says Washington's top priority must be to reverse trends like economic inequality, weakened middle-class security and global competition. He says Washington has lost focus on the economy. Attorney General Eric Holder has assured the Russian government that the U.S. has no plans to seek the death penalty for former National Security Agency systems analyst Edward Snowden. In a letter dated July 23rd, the attorney general said the criminal charges Snowden now faces in this country do not carry the death penalty and the U.S. will not seek his execution even if he is charged with additional serious crimes. San Diego Mayor Bob Filner will issue a statement to the media, his office said, apparently in response to mounting pressure on him to resign or take a leave of absence after a flurry of sexual harassment allegations.
