The Senate overwhelmingly approved a $46 billion plan to sharply increase federal law enforcement efforts at the U.S. border with Mexico, in a move aimed at winning bipartisan passage of a comprehensive immigration bill. Drawing on the political might of the White House, Democrats swept to victory in a U.S. Senate race in Massachusetts that highlighted President Barack Obama's challenges in the 2014 congressional elections and the GOP's struggle to broaden its appeal. Britain's Treasury Chief is about to announce the billions of pounds in spending cuts. The Treasury Chief, George Osborne, was hoping there would be no more austerity measures. But Britain's growth rate remains an anemic 0.3 percent, and the deficit has increased. Analysts suggest some departments could get cuts of up to 10 percent.
