Smartphones outpace feature phones for first time

According to a report from Gartner, smartphones have finally outsold feature phones. During the second quarter, worldwide smartphone sales hit 225 million, a 46.5 percent leap from last year while feature phone sales fell 21 percent to 210 million. Smartphones saw their biggest growth in Asia/Pacific at 74.1 percent, Latin America at 55.7 percent, and Eastern Europe at 31.6 percent. On a global scale, Samsung is absolutely obliterating Apple right now in terms of smartphone sales. At last count, Samsung shipped between 72 million and 76 million smartphones last quarter while iPhone sales came in at 31.2 million units.
