A federal appeals court rejected a Christian university's religion-based challenge against part of President Barack Obama's 2010 healthcare overhaul, which the school claimed had forced taxpayers and employers to subsidize abortions and contraception. Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane recently refused to fight a lawsuit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union challenging the state's ban on same-sex marriage. The lawsuit is believed to be the first federal case since the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on June 26 that the U.S. government must recognize same-sex marriages in states where it is legal. House Speaker John Boehner says the vast majority of House Republicans believe they need to tackle the immigration-issue. But he says securing the borders must come first, and the House will take a step-by-step approach, not do a single big bill like the Senate.
