U.S. stock futures are rising ahead of new data on manufacturing and construction. Economists say that manufacturing picked up in June following the first contraction in six months. Stock futures rose, indicating a rebound from the previous session's decline and that equities would start the second half of the year by building on the strongest first half of any year since 1998. Among 200 top chief executives in 2012, the median compensation package jumped 16 percent. So much for the idea that shareholders are getting through to companies about reining in pay.
