Tech Companies News Byte: Wall Street Flat as Caterpillar, AT&T Offset Apple's Gains

Wochit 1:12 mins

U.S. stocks were flat as results from blue-chips Caterpillar and AT&T offset gains for the tech sector generated by Apple's stronger-than-expected results. The Federal Trade Commission has finalized its settlement with Google over the company's alleged misuse of the standards-essential patents it gained as part of its $12.5 billion acquisition of Motorola Mobility in 2011. The final order requires Google to license those standards-essential patents on fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory or FRAND terms, and prevents the company from using them as a weapon against rivals by seeking product injunctions and importation bans based on them. Google is introducing a sleeker version of its Nexus 7 tablet as it escalates its battle with Apple and Amazon.com in the mobile computing market. The latest tablet edition also comes with a higher price selling between $229 and $269.
