Wochit 1:05 mins

The threat of a terrorist attack led to the weekend closure of 21 U.S. embassies and consulates in the Muslim world and a global travel warning to Americans, the first such alert since an announcement before the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 strikes. Abdul Zai, spokesman for the governor of Nangarhar province, said three suicide bombers wearing explosive vests were driving toward the Indian Consulate in Jalalabad when they were stopped by the security services. Zai said one bomber detonated a device inside the vehicle. Two bombers died and the third was injured. Eight passersby were killed and 25 others were seriously injured. The United States issued a global travel alert to American citizens, warning of the potential for terrorist attacks, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa, carried out by operatives of Al Qaeda and their associates.
