The share of American adults with jobs rose slightly in June, to 58.7 percent. That matches the highest level since the end of the recession, but remains well below the prevailing level before the recession. U.S. employers added a robust 195,000 jobs in June and many more in April and May than previously thought. The job growth raises hopes for a stronger economy in the second half of 2013. The International Monetary Fund pressed Italy to do more about "unacceptably high" unemployment, especially among young people and women, and urged it to bring back an unpopular property tax whose return could threaten the survival of Premier Enrico Letta's coalition government.
