Abercrombie & Fitch, Guess and Williams-Sonoma fall as sales disappoint

Here is a look at some of the stocks the Yahoo Finance team will be watching for you today.

A handful of retailers rolling out disappointing sales this morning. Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF) shares are lower in early trading. The clothing retailer reported earnings that beat by $0.08 a share. Revenue came up short of analysts' estimates, down nearly 6% from a year ago. However, same-store sales fell less than expected.

Guess (GES) shares tumbled before the bell. The apparel retailer cut its outlook for the year and its current quarter after consumers did not warm up to its fall collection. The company also reported second quarter earnings and revenue that missed analysts' estimates as weak traffic and promotions continued to put pressure on its physical stores.

Williams-Sonoma (WSM) shares fell before the bell. The specialty home retailer that operates Pottery Barn and its namesake store said its current quarter would be weaker-than-expected. Although sales for second quarter rose nearly 6% from a year earlier. Revenue still missed estimates and earnings matched expectations.

Dollar General (DG) shares are also on investors’ radar. The dollar-store chain reported earnings that matched analysts' estimates. Revenue fell short of expectations, although sales rose 7.5% from a year ago. The biggest U.S. dollar-store chain also said it's still interested in buying Family Dollar and it believes the potential antitrust issues are manageable. Family Dollar last week rejected Dollar General's buyout offer opting instead for a smaller bid from Dollar Tree.

Apple (AAPL) is grabbing headlines again. Recode reported Apple will reveal a wearable device when it debuts its two new iPhones on September 9th.The report doesn't say if the device will be a smartwatch, but it does come after reports earlier in the summer that Apple will launch a smartwatch in October.
