Target’s Traffic Is at a Record High, Expected to Mark Growth

One of the highlights of Target’s (TGT) fiscal first-quarter results was the strength in its traffic, which increased 3.7%, the highest rise in ten years. The graph above shows that the number of transactions at Target has marked healthy YoY (year-over-year) growth in the past four quarters, but the average ticket size or average transaction amount remained low owing to price investments and increased competition. In comparison, Walmart (WMT) continued to report higher traffic in its US business, but adverse weather conditions remained a drag.
