Lenovo Group Ltd. took the top spot in both IDC's and Gartner's reports on personal-computer shipments for the September quarter, the research firms said Wednesday. Lenovo reclaimed the top spot from HP Inc. , according to IDC's numbers, amassing 24% of the market compared with 22.8% for HP. Dell Inc., Acer, and Apple Inc. rounded out the top five. IDC said in a release that the companies seemed "able to fulfill a sizable portion of their demand" despite concerns about Intel Corp. processor shortages. Per Gartner figures, Lenovo topped HP as well. The company had 23.6% share of the market, compared with 21.8% for HP, according to Gartner. Matthew Zielinski, Lenovo's head of North America, told MarketWatch on Tuesday that the company's recent share improvement reflects Lenovo's balanced strategy. HP shares are down 0.3% in after-hours trading Wednesday. They're up 18% over the past 12 months, compared with a 9.2% rise for the S&P 500 .
