Blue Origin seeks more time to develop New Glenn rocket for military

Matthew Richardson

After getting part of a $2.2 billion defense contract last year to help build its newest rocket, Blue Origin LLC wants the U.S. Air Force to delay choosing two firms for launch services in the mid-2020s. Last year, the Air Force selected three launch providers — Blue Origin, Northrop Grumman Corp. (NYSE: NOC) and United Launch Alliance LLC — to build the next generation of heavy lift rockets and supported those firms efforts by investing in them under the National Security Space Launch Program. Next year, the Air Force will choose two firms for more than two dozen launches between 2022-2026.
