Frequent travelers know that there are plenty of drawbacks that come with racking up miles and points--from unexpected delays and layovers to coming home to an empty fridge. It's not hard to see why retailers would want to tap into this market: Airlines are seeing higher global demand, fliers tend to have higher incomes (who else would have bought Sky Mall's replica of King Tut's Egyptian throne?), and quite frankly, airport travelers are "captive audiences," says Kelsey Chessey, senior brand strategist at FRCH Design Worldwide. Nearly every major airport is planning, or already in the middle of major renovations to accommodate the increase in travelers and their needs for shopping and dining.
