Port Canaveral's leader sails into new era of seaport

Capt. John Murray is not only a great leader, he's also just the type of visionary that Port Canaveral needed to head up the charge on its most ambitious project yet while also encouraging a culture of collaboration. The Canaveral Port Authority CEO and port director has led some major business initiatives on behalf of Central Florida's sea hub. Notably, he was a key player in securing a $500 million deal with Miami-based Carnival Corp. (NYSE: CCL) to expand the cruise line at Port Canaveral and bring its first liquified natural gas-powered vessel to the U.S. Construction began in March of this year on the $163 million, 188,000-square-foot "Launch Pad," Port Canaveral's biggest-ever cruise passenger terminal that will be the home port for the new Carnival Mardi Gras, the XL-class megaship that will begin sailing in fall 2020.
