While retiring before the age of 65 might sound like a luxury to many, the reality of early retirement is often much less appealing. While the road ahead may be tough, plenty have walked it before, and there are many ways to navigate toward a comfortable early retirement. Health care is usually the second-largest expense in retirement, trailing only housing, so early retirees must think critically about how they’ll bridge the gap between coverage under an employer-sponsored health insurance plan and coverage under Medicare, eligibility for which begins at age 65.
