More union workers at Wabtec consider strikes

Union workers from Wabtec Corp.’s (NYSE: WAB) Wilmerding and Greensburg facilities gathered Saturday, April 27 to rally against the company’s proposed concessions as the workers face a contract that expires on May 1, according to UE Field Organizer Ben Wilson. If an agreement is not reached, the union workers may strike as soon as Wednesday when the contract expires. Gibson said the union membership at these facilities have accepted concessions the last nine or 10 years, but that this time is different because the company hit record profitability and announced the belief that it will hit record profits again.   While Gibson said a strike is in the hands of the union membership to decide by Tuesday at midnight, the workers have already expressed that they cannot accept any increases in health care cost.
