Six dead as gunfire sends Fourth of July parade goers running for cover in Chicago suburb Highland Park, Ill.

Six people are dead and 24 have been transported to area hospitals after a mass shooting at a July 4 parade in the northern Chicago suburb Highland Park, Ill., local authorities said Monday. Hundreds of parade goers — some visibly bloodied — fled the parade route, leaving behind chairs, baby strollers and blankets. Commander Chris O’Neill of the Highland Park Police Department said an 18- to 20-year old white male suspect was being sought as of 12:55 p.m. local time.
