April 2, 2019, started like any other spring day for members of the fledgling Orlando Apollos football team, as they took the field to practice for their next game, throwing and catching passes, running plays and performing drills. In a prepared joint statement with the general manager and team president, Spurrier later said he was "shocked and incredibly disappointed" by the league's decision and felt grateful to the team's players, coaches, staff, corporate partners and especially the fans, who "fervently supported" the Apollos as Orlando's professional football team.
