How Turkish tariffs cause economic headwinds for IP in Memphis

International Paper fought headwinds to land what was essentially a stable quarter. The Memphis-based global producer of packaging, pulp, and paper products reported net sales for the first quarter of 2019 of $5.6 billion, compared to $6 billion in Q4 2018 and $5.6 billion in Q1 2018. During the earnings call on Thursday, April 25, Mark Sutton, chairman and CEO of International Paper Co. (IP), said the company “delivered another quarter of solid performance and strong free cash flow.” Free cash flow was $440 million for Q1 2019 compared to $174 million in Q1 2018.
