JBG Smith Properties (NYSE: JBGS) and Gallaudet University are, at last, making substantial progress on their joint effort to redevelop a series of properties on the western edge of the university’s NoMa campus, with some key zoning approvals nearly in hand. The Bethesda developer and Gallaudet are set to win a series of zoning changes for the roughly 1.5 million-square-foot D.C. project next week, teeing up work on five mixed-use buildings. The builders expect to start by constructing 833 apartments and about 60,000 square feet of retail on two parcels located where 6th Street NE meets Neal Place (just across from Union Market), with more work to follow on two other pieces of land close by.
