Weeks after fending off a short-seller attack, New Hope-based the Meet Group is continuing to roll out new ways to monetize its livestreaming product. The dating app company announced Monday it has added a “Levels” feature to livestreams in its flagship MeetMe app to entice users to engage in video. Moving up unlocks new features including virtual face masks and backgrounds. “Levels add a fun, competitive and rewarding dynamic to Live,” CEO Geoff Cook said in a statement. Now, Meet’s focus is on increasing how much “gifting” — users pay for in-app credits they can use to give virtual gifts to livestreamers, who can redeem them for cash — takes place on Live, where it takes a cut from this behavior. Another recently added feature, “Battle,” lets two users livestream side-by-side and compete for gifts.
