Virginia Elementary School Ditches Confederate Name in Favor of Barack Obama

On Monday night, Richmond’s public school board voted 6-1 to change the name of J.E.B. Stuart Elementary School, which is named after a Confederate general, to Barack Obama Elementary School, the Huffington Post reports. The former Confederate capital will no longer have a school named after a Confederate figure. “This is Richmond and we are about history and we have so many great local stories to tell,” she told the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
