Judge rebuffs Jeffrey Epstein’s astronomical bail proposal

A Manhattan federal judge has denied the pricey bail package Jeffrey Epstein, the financier and philanthropist accused of sex trafficking underage girls, put forward. Southern District Judge Richard Berman’s ruling Thursday morning means Epstein will remain locked up in a Manhattan federal jail while his case is pending, instead of being under house arrest at his Upper East Side mansion. Epstein was willing to put up the $77 million property as collateral to guarantee he’d show up for court appearances, but Berman wasn’t buying it.
