East Bay startup lands first grocer in cashierless battle against Amazon

As Amazon continues to expand its checkout-free stores across the country, a Berkeley startup's technology is helping other retailers get into the game. Grabango, a cashierless technology service provider, will make its official brick-and-mortar debut with its first retail partner: Pittsburgh-based Giant Eagle Inc. The East Coast grocer will use East Bay startup's technology in a pilot location that is yet to be determined. Giant Eagle has more than 450 stores in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana and Maryland.
