10 RI groups to share funds to help uninsured
Blue Cross donates $235,000 to organizations to help uninsured, underinsured in Rhode Island
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Ten nonprofit organizations in Rhode Island are sharing $235,000 in grants designed to help the uninsured and underinsured get health care.
The organizations are receiving grants from Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island of between $15,000 and $30,000. Blue Cross announced the funding on Tuesday.
Among the groups getting funding is Progreso Latino, which will use $25,000 for a program that aims to eliminate health disparities between Latinos and the general public in the Blackstone Valley region. Amos House, which serves the homeless and those who have struggled with substance abuse, will receive $30,000 to support psychiatric services for 90-day program residents. Children's Friend is getting $20,000 to help support breastfeeding in low-income women.
The funding is part of Blue Cross' BlueAngel Community Health Grant program.
