140 luxury homes are coming to Whatcom County. Check out the price points

A 149-acre property in Blaine will soon be the site of 140 single-family luxury homes and ten multi-family complexes totaling 400 units.

The development is called Horizon and it sits south of Semiahmoo Parkway, east of Selder Road and north of Birch Point Road.

The gated community will feature a mix of one-, two- and three-story homes ranging from 2,200 square feet to more than 4,200 square feet.

The homes feature open-concept layouts — many with outdoor living spaces.

Depending on size, the homes will be priced anywhere between $700,000 and $1.2 million.

The multi-family unit costs are not yet determined, according to Harbor Custom Development Inc., the real estate company developing the site.

Two of the multi-family developments are expected to be built in 2023 and the full set of single-family homes will likely be built by 2025, according to Harbor. The company expects to reach completion of the full development in the next several years.

Four model homes by three separate builders are already partially or completely constructed, with two being move-in ready.

The community also has a number of pre-sale lots available.

Depending on weather conditions and the size of the house, properties may take anywhere from nine to 12 months to build, according to Harbor.

The company expects the community will be home to remote workers, retirees and those looking to leave more urban areas.

“We’re not far from Seattle or Bellingham so it’s not that big of a commute,” said Harbor Marketing Director Jennifer Lang.

According to Lang, people living or vacationing in the community will have easy access to activities such as sailing, golfing and hiking.

The community features 24 acres of open space and will eventually connect to the Coast Millennium Trail for biking and walking.

“We really see this (community) as serving residents who want to connect with the outdoors while living in an upscale, small town community with resort-like amenities,” Lang said.

On a clear day, the homes are expected to have views of Birch Bay, the San Juan Islands, the Cascade Mountains and Mount Baker.
