But first, let’s see what the year behind us has been. Judging by the latest figures, it was a tough one mentally, physically, and financially too. As for students themselves, proper education levels are very questionable this year. Overall, 56 million school-aged children between the ages of 5 and 17 were facing a lot more than usual. The pressure to get higher grades and excel (or maybe not get expelled), the everyday obligations and fair projects, all of these were added a huge burden that even the adult graduates were unprepared for — Covid19.

Who is going to school, who’s staying home, what do you need for a Zoom lesson, can one eat and attend a class, and should masks be worn at all times at school — that’s a whole lot of questions. Surely, one deserves a break! Now, how to get it? Well, that’s where good excuses for missing school come in! In order to find out, we’ve turned to DocFormats, The Current, and Student Assembly. 15. I got lost.

Truth be told, this one cannot fail if you are a new student. Use the card while you still have it — you won’t be really able to get excused with this one after a month of regularly coming to classes.

Taking the wrong bus, taking the wrong turn and the like are believable until a certain time period expires.

14. There was a flood in our street.

This one is really tough as it depends on the weather forecast. Should there be a heavy downpour in your area, which is already known for bad sewer, don’t hesitate! Just use it to the fullest and say you couldn’t cross the street without getting soaked.

Who’s gonna check if every single street in the neighborhood was blocked if the news said there were issues? No one.

13. Our car broke down/got stolen.

If your parents are the ones taking you to school in a city that has insane traffic, this one works like a charm. Just remember, it has to be your parents’ car. You can’t do this if you say you’re carpooling with your classmates that made it to the lesson.

12. We had a competition in our club.

Chances are you’re doing some activities after school, like most of the kids. You don’t even have to say you were competing against someone else. Perhaps you were supposed to get a new belt in karate, or you had some health check-up.

Alternatively, you can say you went to another city to compete. Just remember who won the game when they ask you.

11. We’re going on a family vacation.

In these crazy times, people choose safe travel to keep their sanity. A cabin in the woods is definitely safe from the virus and far from overcrowded places. Another one in the line of believable excuses for skipping class in middle school, providing you with a free week or at least a free Monday or Friday!

10. We had a family emergency.

Now, this one can go a long way. There’s always the funeral card, when you say one of the older relatives suddenly passed away. Nevertheless, you needn’t go that far. You could say your grandpa had a heart attack, or somebody broke a leg, or maybe even got lost if they’re senile.

Also, there is probably some situation that occurred and messed up all your plans on going out, so you may pick that one up as well from your experience.

9. I had to go to the dentist.

An old one, but a good one. A classic in good excuses for skipping online class. This happens on a regular basis, so why wouldn’t it be used for skipping class? It can be a regular check-up, or you can say that you had a really bad toothache after dinner the previous day.

You need more excuses to skip Zoom class? Use this one, or something similar. You can always say you were babysitting as well and your sibling made a serious mischief, e.g. flooded the kitchen. 7. My allergy broke out.

Oh, this one is simply beautiful. If you have had some issues in the past, you’ll know well enough how to fake it. If you have never had an allergy before, no worries. No one knows when it can break out in one’s life. So, pick some easy symptoms such as coughing and sneezing, a runny nose, or the like. You could go for nuts allergies, but it’s hard to imitate swelling and you may be asked why you didn’t get a doctor’s report.

6. I got tested for Covid-19.

These days, it’s only too easy to get out of class as you can get tested several times, be negative, yet it doesn’t matter. It’s that one positive that counts. No arguments against this either. If they ask for the health report, that may be tricky. However, how often a piece of paper gets lost? Plenty.
