5-year-old checks in on 93-year-old neighbor with 'heartwarming' note

Forced to practice social distancing, a little girl named Kirah decided to check up on her 93-year-old neighbor Ron by writing him a sweet letter.

On April 6, Ron’s granddaughter shared Kirah’s note on Twitter, writing, “My granddad is 93 and currently in isolation of course — but is in very good health — and he has received the most beautiful letter from his 5-year-old neighbor … Just please read, it should make you smile.”

Kirah’s sweet handwritten letter begins with an introduction.

“Hello my name is Kirah,” it reads. “I am 5 years old. I have to stay at home because of the coronavirus.”

After she gets through the formalities, she then asks Ron how he’s doing and tries to comfort him.

“I have drawn you a rainbow to remind you that you are not alone,” she says.

At the end, she asks Ron to “please write back if you can” — which, of course, he does.

In his note, Ron tells Kirah that he was “so pleased to receive [her] message asking about [his] well-being.” He tells his young neighbor that he is “keeping well so far,” and then gives her a bit more of his background.

“My name is Ron and I am 93 years old,” he says. “I was the first person to move into The Crescent in 1955 and I have been here ever since.”

Before he signs off, Ron thanks Kirah for her “amazing” rainbow drawing, which he says he hung in his window for everyone to see.

Social media users are moved both by Kirah’s note and Ron’s sweet response.

“Ok, who’s bloody cutting onions in here,” one Twitter user joked. “That’s adorable.”

“This is the loveliest thing! Really heartwarming,” another person said. “Your grandad is so sweet in his response and Kirah is very kind. May they inspire a wave of kindness, reminding us all to be Kirah at number 9!”
