The XXIV Olympic Winter Games – or Winter Olympics – in Beijing are no doubt being held with a sense of controversy, with some wondering why the Games are being held in the first place.

It will be the first time in three decades that the Summer and Winter Olympics will occur less than a year apart.

When do the Winter Olympics start?

The opening ceremony of the 2022 Winter Games is set for Friday, Feb. 4 and will air live on NBC and Peacock at 6:30 a.m ET. Competition in some events will begin two days earlier. Primetime begins each night at 8 p.m. ET, except for Sundays

NBC's primetime coverage starts Feb. 3 with figure skating and men's and women's moguls. The closing ceremony is Feb. 20.

How many events are in the Winter Olympics?

There will be 109 events, including seven that will make their debut.

Mixed-gender team aerials, Men’s big air, Women’s big air are freestyle skiing events, with mixed team relay in the short-track speedskating program. A mixed team event is debuting in the ski jumping competition. Snowboarding will also have a mixed team snowboard cross and monobob, which is a women's solo bobsledding event.

What TV channel will broadcast Beijing Olympics?

NBC and its cable subsidiaries will broadcast the Beijing Olympics in the United States. USA Network will broadcast coverage 24 hours a day, along with broadcasting on CNBC will supplement more than 2,800 hours of coverage.
