3M (MMM) reported a weak quarter. The industrial giant came in short on sales and slashed its outlook for the rest of the year. The CEO cited a "challenging" macroeconomic environment for the latest results — and insisted they're positioned for "strong growth" as key markets recover.
Hershey (HSY) reported a solid quarter. The company beat on earnings and sales thanks in part to strength here in North America, and they expect sales to increase 2.5% for the rest of the year. That's partly because of the recent acquisition of the nutrition bar label "One Brands."
American Express (AXP) is relaunching its iconic Green Card. The company says the new card is made from 70% recycled plastic, with new travel benefits for customers. It also will offer a mobile assistant, to help customers with travel and other bookings. The original green card launched in 1958 and was a charge card, meaning it had to be paid off in full every month. The updated version will let you carry a balance month to month.
PG&E (PCG) has begun its next round of power outages. The company says some 180,000 customers in 17 Northern California counties will see their power cut Thursday, as it tries to reduce the risk of wildfires amid high winds. PG&E said it expects power to be restored within 48 hours.
eBay (EBAY) is forecasting a weak holiday season with profit and revenue expected to come in below earlier estimates. The company is citing increased competition from Walmart (WMT), Amazon (AMZN), and other online retailers. It's also still reeling from the departure of CEO Devin Wenig, who clashed with investors over the sale of StubHub and its classified ads business.
