300 Boston Public School Elementary Students, Educators, and Exhibitors Come Together at Boston Children's Museum's CreatedBy Festival

Robust Workshops, Hands-On Activities, and Fun Programs Created to Spark Interest in STEAM

BOSTON, Oct. 17, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Boston Children's Museum announced that Boston Public Schools (BPS) elementary students, educators, and exhibitors will come together for a full day of robust workshops, hands-on activities, and fun STEAM programs as part of the CreatedBy Festival. The Museum is proud to partner with Massachusetts STEM Week, a statewide initiative to engage students in hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math activities. During the day on Friday, October 25, CreatedBy will host some of the Greater Boston community's prominent education-focused and education-technology organizations to teach, share, and inspire the 300 visiting BPS students from the Guild Elementary in East Boston and the Shaw Elementary and King School in Dorchester for hands-on STEM field trip experiences.

"Collaborating with our partners to provide the next generation of makers and creators with hands-on, experiential learning activities supports our continued efforts to strengthen STEM instruction and curriculum," said Boston Public Schools Superintendent Brenda Cassellius. "The CreatedBy Festival presents an opportunity for the STEM community to come together with BPS educators and students to expand their learning beyond the classroom."

These visits will provide students with opportunities to engage in activities they might not normally have access to in school, such as 3D design with CAD Blocks and using tools to design puppets. The goal of these experiences is to help students spark interest in STEM, broaden possibilities for their future, and support their ability to see themselves in STEM. The hands-on STEM activities will be delivered by Boston Children's Museum staff and local STEM-education organizations: Autodesk (TinkerCAD), Homeslice Puppetry, Artisan's Asylum, and Science from Scientists. Field trip students will have an opportunity to discover and explore Boston Children's Museum's exhibits, and also interact with STEM/STEAM pop-up exhibitors throughout the Museum.

"Boston Children's Museum has taken the lead in offering STEM experiences for elementary school students during Massachusetts STEM Week," said Neil Tembulkar, STEAM Project Manager at the Museum. "This partnership is an opportunity for the institution to share our vision of STEM/STEAM education for early learners: to build a foundation for further learning, to build confidence and curiosity in students, and to make STEM experiences accessible and fun!"

The Museum, in collaboration with Massachusetts STEM Week and CBS Boston, as well as partners Artisan's Asylum, NE FIRST, Olin College of Engineering, and the City of Boston, thank sponsors Autodesk, BNY Mellon, KinderCare, MathWorks, MEFA's U.Fund College Investing Plan that is managed by Fidelity, National Grid, and Vertex, who have all come together to make the CreatedBy Festival possible.
