4 NC groups getting $3M to help people sign up for health insurance under new federal overhaul
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- The Obama administration is sending four North Carolina organizations more than $3 million to help people sign up for insurance under the new health care law.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said Thursday that Community Care of North Carolina will receive about $2 million. The public-private agency which manages hospital and doctor networks will provide counselors to explain different plans offered through the online health insurance shopping markets coming in October.
The "navigator" program is important because the Republican-led General Assembly rejected federal money for outreach.
Other grants are going to Randolph Hospital, the Alcohol/Drug Council of North Carolina, and Mountain Projects Inc., a non-profit that will provide navigator services in the state's seven western-most rural counties.
