4G from Telenor in over 100 Norwegian municipalities

(Fornebu, Norway - 18 December 2013) Telenor has now brought 4G to 100 municipalities and more than half of Norway`s population now has 4G where they live.

4G is the fourth generation of mobile telephony, providing download speeds of up to 10 times those of standard mobile telephony.

"We are delighted that we now have the highest percentage of 4G coverage on the market. In total, Telenor will have rolled out approximately 2,300 base stations over the year, and the rate of expansion during the last two months has been over 300 base stations per month. 100 municipalities with 4G is an important milestone, while we continue our expansion efforts with just as much ambition into next year," says CEO of Telenor Norway, Berit Svendsen.

Telenor has almost 500,000 active 4G customers on its 4G network, and virtually all sales of smartphones are now 4G phones.

3G network twice as fast
To guarantee the best possible coverage for Norwegians, Telenor is also expanding its 3G network in parallel with 4G. Telenor now offers 3G coverage to 95 per cent of the population.

"Over the course of just the last three months of 2013, 95 municipalities will have received improved 3G coverage. We are investing heavily in the expansion of our 3G and 4G networks to ensure that as many people as possible can enjoy the best possible surfing experience," says Berit Svendsen.

Radically improved coverage within a few months
Telenor has now been assigned new frequencies, which means that we can improve our coverage in every county nationwide. Coverage will improve as of early 2014.

"We look forward to shortly publishing the list of places where we will improve coverage. Every county in Norway will now receive improved coverage - not to mention that indoor coverage will be significantly better," says Berit Svendsen.

She adds that Telenor customers can be assured that Telenor will continue to provide the best coverage and high capacity mobile data in Norway in the future.
