5 Home Furnishing Companies With High Strength and Profitability

In light of homebuilder sentiment accelerating during June, five home furnishing stocks with high financial strength and profitability are Fuling Global Inc. (NASDAQ:FORK), Hooker Furniture Corp. (NASDAQ:HOFT), Kimball International Inc. (NASDAQ:KBAL), La-Z-Boy Inc. (NYSE:LZB) and Mohawk Industries Inc. (NYSE:MHK) according to the All-in-One Screener, a Premium GuruFocus feature.

Markets add to Monday's comeback rally on several factors including strong housing data

On Tuesday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 26,289.98, up 526.82 points or 2.04% from Monday's close of 25,763.16 on the heels of strong economic news from the housing sector and positive news regarding a potential coronavirus treatment. The gains added to Monday's 100-point comeback on the Federal Reserve's announcement it will buy individual corporate bonds to boost credit markets.

The National Association of Home Builders said that builder confidence in the market for newly built single-family homes climbed 21 points to 58 in June according to the NAHB / Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI) data released on Tuesday. Each of the index's three components surged over 20 points: The current sales index, sales expectations index and prospective buyer traffic index rose 21 points, 22 points and 22 points for the month.

NAHB Chairman Dean Mon said that the record increase in the HMI shows that housing is "poised to lead the economy forward" following the Covid-19 pandemic. Mon added that buyer traffic "more than doubled in one month" as builders report "growing online and phone inquiries stemming from the outbreak." NAHB Chief Economist Robert Dietz added that builders reported increasing demand for single-family homes in low-density, suburban areas.

Opportunities exist in home furnishing companies with high strength and profitability

As the housing market improves, investors might seek opportunities in companies that manufacture and market home furnishings like furniture, mattresses, light fixtures, flooring and wallpaper. Demand for these products could increase as new and existing homeowners buy furniture for their new home or renovate their existing home. The Screener listed five furniture companies that have a financial strength rank of at least 6 and a profitability rank of at least 7, two criteria for high-quality companies.
