5 Mother’s Day Gift Cards That Come with Perks

Shelley Hunter

When my three kids were little, our daily life resembled a park merry-go-round. The youngest never let go of the center pole (me), my oldest boy always wanted the ride (our activities) to go faster, and my daughter couldn’t resist sitting dangerously close to the edge (always pushing the boundaries.) Though moms with older children constantly reminded me to cherish the chaos because the years would fly by, I knew the days to be quite long. Then, just as predicted, the kids suddenly spun off to preschool, kindergarten, and elementary school. How foolish I was to think that the ride would slow down at that point. The merry-go-round turned into a minivan and the speed picked up considerably. When my oldest hit middle school, I had no choice but to buckle up and hold on.

As a mother living in a fast-paced, ever-changing world, I find that one way to hold on to precious time is to find products and services that multitask for me, so I don’t have to. With that in mind, the Mother’s Day gift cards below come with a benefit beyond the actual present.

Gift Cards with Choice

Gift cards redeemable at a family of stores give Mom the freedom to choose the store she wants to shop at. Crate & Barrel gift cards, for example, are redeemable at CB2 and The Land of Nod. Gap store gift cards are redeemable at Banana Republic, Old Navy, Athleta, and other stores. Check retailer websites to see if their gift cards can be redeemed at other merchants.

Gift Cards with Savings

For moms on a budget, gift cards redeemable at outlet stores can be used to stretch family-dollars further. LOFT gift cards are redeemable at Ann Taylor, Ann Taylor Factory and LOFT Outlet stores. With this gift card, Mom gets to decide if she’ll pay retail or discount prices for her clothes.

Gift Cards with Compassion

At J.Jill, a donation is made to the J.Jill Compassion Fund or a charity of choice when a gift card is purchased before Mother’s Day. Gift card promotions such as this allow you to give to others while picking out your present for mom.

Gift Cards with Causes

For the mom who has everything, a charitable gift card may be just what she needs. You buy the gift card, and Mom selects which cause will receive her donation. Charities to benefit rescue animals, support music programs, help find a cure, and more are all available at TisBest.org and JustGive.org.

Gift Cards with Thanks

At DonorsChoose.org, teachers post classroom project requests on the website. When a project is funded through donations, the organization ships the needed materials to the school. With a DonorsChoose.org gift card, mom picks which classroom project will receive the money and she’ll receive a thank you note from the kids she helps.

Gift Cards are already a favorite of time-crunched moms because they are convenient to give and the recipient gets the freedom to choose what she wants. The gift cards listed above, however, offer just a little bit more this Mother’s Day.
