5 highlights from day 1 of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal tour
1. Prince Harry gushes about baby
The Duke and Duchess announced they are expecting their first child just hours after landing in Australia for their royal tour.
Prince Harry addressed their baby news, during his first speech at the Admiralty House afternoon reception in Sydney, as a proud Meghan looked on.
2. Harry meets Australian super fan for third time
The Duke had an emotional reunion with 98-year-old war widow Daphne Dunne during the public walkabout outside Sydney Opera House, whom he first met in 2015.
Harry introduced his wife Meghan to Daphne and she made a very touching promise.
As the Duke and Duchess carried out their first engagements in Australia following their baby news, Meghan showed off the first hint of a baby bump.
Meghan, who is around 12-weeks pregnant, chose a figure-hugging ivory dress by Australian designer Karen Gee to visit Taronga Zoo and Sydney Opera House.
4. Meghan’s touching tribute to Diana
The Duchess wowed in two outfits on the first day of the tour – an ivory Karen Gee shift and a khaki Brandon Maxwell shirt dress – but it was her accessories which caught everyone’s attention.
Meghan wore two very special pieces of jewellery, which once belonged to Harry’s late mother Princess Diana.
5. Samantha Markle speaks out
Kensington Palace announced that the Royal Family were “delighted” by Meghan and Harry’s baby news and that the Duchess’s mother Doria Ragland “is very happy about this lovely news and she looks forward to welcoming her first grandchild.”
They declined to comment on whether Meghan’s father Thomas Markle has been told but her half-sister Samantha has told The Sun: ‘If he is excluded, I won’t be happy.’
