From ELLE

Lily Rose-Depp has been wearing Chanel since she was in diapers. Literally: She once posted a picture of herself in her mother Vanessa Paradis' two-tone heels. One could say that when she became a face of Chanel Beauty back in 2016 it was destiny. As the daughter of Paradis and Johnny Depp, she was always primed for a life in the limelight and now, she's following both her parent's footsteps with both burgeoning acting and modelling careers. A new French movie, A Faithful Man, coming out this month; more campaigns for Chanel Beauty, an Oscar-baiting heartthrob for a rumoured beau-she is just getting started. We sat down with the rising star recently to talk her beauty routine, French vs. American influences, the make-up look that got her in trouble with her mum, and more.

Start you skincare routine early

'I think that the younger you start to take care of your skin, the better. Your skin will thank you for it later. I've always tried to take care of my skin ever since I was 14, 15. I like to keep things very simple. My mum definitely instilled in me the importance of washing your face before you go to bed. Not only is it very 'her' to say this, but also quite French-we're very simple when it comes to skincare.'

Your mum's past looks can be your biggest beauty inspiration.

'She's my idol in every way. Obviously, I think she's so beautiful and I'm so inspired by all of her looks, past and present. She still will set a spark in the way that she carries herself and dresses up and everything, today. I also love drawing inspiration from past looks or things that she used to wear when she was my age. That is so much fun. She's also just an incredible woman and definitely kind of the woman that I would like to grow up to be.

'The Chanel powder compact blushes that have been around forever are so nostalgic for me because of the smell and growing up watching my mum in the car. She'd be wearing no makeup, or very minimal make-up. She would take a little bit of the blush, put it on her cheeks, and then put it on her eyelids as well. And that would be her whole make-up look day to day. I've always done that, too. I definitely learned that from my mum.'

Mix influences

'I definitely feel when it comes to beauty, I am quite like a mix of both cultures. Brigitte Bardot is one of my biggest beauty inspirations. There's a lot of American beauties I love, too: Mena Suvari in American Beauty is such a style icon. Christy Turlington. Naomi Campbell. I definitely love effortless, no-make-up-except-for-red-lipstick-and-mascara-kind of French girl beauty. But, playing dress up has been something I've loved doing since I was a little girl. So, I love doing a full, glam look. I've been obsessed with make-up since I can remember. I remember getting into fights with my mum when I was 12, about wanting to wear a smoky eye to school. She was like, "It's not happening!"'

Do your favourite part of your make-up routine yourself

'I always do my lips myself because I think I always grew up watching [my mum] do her own lips. I think we all have that one feature that we feel like no one else can get it right except for you, even though you're working with your most favourite make-up artist in the world. For some it's eyebrows. For me, it's my lips. No one knows exactly what I want except for me.'

Go on and try wigs

'I've never actually dyed my own hair. I do like my natural colour. I just think wigs are so much fun to play with and try to imagine the characters that would go on with them. It's a part of also why I love acting so much: I just love the idea of transforming into someone else and getting out of your own head for awhile.'

Fragrance can be a sentimental part of a beauty routine.

'My mum and my grandmother and so many women in my life have always worn Chanel fragrances; mainly Chanel No. 5. But I ever since No. 5 l'eau has come out, it's really been my go to. It's also very special and dear to my heart because I'm the face–It means so much to me and will always remind me of this important time in my life.'
