First Thursdays Art Walk -- Gallery Openings, Dance and Special Pre-Event April 7, 2011, 6 to 9 pm

LAGUNA BEACH, CA--(Marketwire - 03/24/11) - A jam-packed First Thursday Art Walk in Laguna Beach is planned for April 7th. Not only will it feature the self-guided tour of gallery openings around the town, artist demonstrations and receptions, but also this month Art Walk has dance (courtesy of the Laguna Dance Festival) and a special pre-event at City Hall. There is no beginning or ending point of Art Walk, move around town at your own pace. The event is FREE to the public and so is the trolley service. "This past year the Art Walk board has focused on ways to expand its collaboration with other organizations to create an active culture experience for our patrons," said First Thursdays Art Walk president Rebecca Barber.Condensed Listing of Special Event Schedule and Gallery Locations:5-6 pm at City Hall: "Art That's Small at City Hall" reception & award ceremony, located at 505 Forest Avenue. The ninth year of "Art That's Small at City Hall" has brought in the largest number of entries in the history of the program. An exhibition, organized by the City of Laguna Beach Arts Commission, is an annual program open to Orange County artists for works 12" and smaller. This year 130 artists have submitted their works.6:30 pm at Laguna Art Museum: Two performances: "eleven-sixty-four" -- A new choreographic work by Teresa Avina. A modern quartet inspired by how we relate to others in the contemporary world. Reverence of Sorts, A new contemporary work choreographed by Jodie Gates. "A movement invention with the concept of reflecting on the past and looking to the future in one brief singular moment."7:00 pm at Swenson Fine Art: A collage of contemporary works choreographed by Mark Tomasic. Baroque classical music by Antonio Vivaldi transports a trio of women and a solo man through the gallery space.7:30 pm at DeRu's Fine Art: Duo for Now, an improvisational duet, collaborating with a live musician in uncertain and diverse surroundings.8:00 pm at [seven-degrees]: California Choreographers, Donald McKayle, Jodie Gates, Teresa Avina and Mark Tomasic display a collection of innovative contemporary dance works.At any gallery pick up an Art Walk brochure that includes a map and a complete schedule of the evening's special events.
