NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) _ Acacia Research Corp. (ACTG) on Thursday reported a third-quarter loss of $33.2 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

The Newport Beach, California-based company said it had a loss of 67 cents per share. Losses, adjusted for amortization costs and stock option expense, came to 56 cents per share.

The technology patent licensor posted revenue of $13.7 million in the period.

In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, the company's shares hit $2.98. A year ago, they were trading at $4.10.
