OAK BROOK, IL--(Marketwired - Oct 18, 2013) - Starting today and lasting throughout the weekend, Ace Hardware, the largest retailer-owned hardware cooperative in the industry, will be celebrating the second annual National Light Bulb Day. Founded to help consumers navigate the updated lighting legislation, National Light Bulb Day will provide Ace's neighborly advice to homeowners who are looking for the best energy-efficient lighting options to fit their needs.
Starting in 2011, The Department of Energy (DOE) issued new energy-efficient lighting standards for both florescent and incandescent light bulbs aimed to reduce energy usage and establish more energy-efficient households across America. January 2014 marks the final phase out and includes 40-Watt and 60-Watt incandescent light bulbs, which are most commonly used as decorative light bulbs in sconces and chandeliers.
With various new lighting options available, Ace will provide the advice and guidance needed to help homeowners purchase the best lighting options to fit their needs. Making the transition to energy-efficient light bulbs such as light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and compact florescent light bulbs (CFLs) can help save homeowners both time and money. According to Energy Star, CFL light bulbs use about 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs and last up to 10 times longer while LEDs also use 75% less energy and last up 15 times longer than incandescent bulbs.
"National Light Bulb Day allows Ace to shine a light on the current lighting legislation and help consumers easily transition their homes to become more energy efficient," said Lou Manfredini, Ace's Home Expert. "With next year's phase out affecting the last of homeowners' light bulbs, Ace will provide the neighborly advice needed to ensure our customers' needs are met, helping to save them time and money."
To celebrate this year's holiday and make the transition a bit easier for all, Ace will be offering consumers an exciting promotion of $5 off their next purchase of $25 or more from October 18-22, 2013 at participating stores with a coupon or online at acehardware.com when entering coupon code LBDAY13 at checkout.* Consumers are encouraged to use the promotion to make their lighting purchases and easily transition to an energy efficient home.
