REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (AP) _ AcelRx Pharmaceuticals Inc. (ACRX) on Thursday reported a loss of $10.5 million in its second quarter.

On a per-share basis, the Redwood City, California-based company said it had a loss of 20 cents.

The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 19 cents per share.

The drugmaker posted revenue of $818,000 in the period.

In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, the company's shares hit $2.60. A year ago, they were trading at $2.95.
