The San Diego-based company said it had a loss of 23 cents per share.
The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 17 cents per share.
The biopharmaceutical company posted revenue of $3.2 million in the period, also falling short of Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $3.3 million.
In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, the company's shares hit $3.83. A year ago, they were trading at $3.80.
