Like a puppy chasing its tail, some new investors often chase 'the next big thing', even if that means buying 'story stocks' without revenue, let alone profit. But as Peter Lynch said in One Up On Wall Street, 'Long shots almost never pay off.'

In contrast to all that, I prefer to spend time on companies like Facephi Biometria (BME:FACE), which has not only revenues, but also profits. Even if the shares are fully valued today, most capitalists would recognize its profits as the demonstration of steady value generation. Conversely, a loss-making company is yet to prove itself with profit, and eventually the sweet milk of external capital may run sour.

How Fast Is Facephi Biometria Growing Its Earnings Per Share?

In business, though not in life, profits are a key measure of success; and share prices tend to reflect earnings per share (EPS). So like a ray of sunshine through a gap in the clouds, improving EPS is considered a good sign. You can imagine, then, that it almost knocked my socks off when I realized that Facephi Biometria grew its EPS from €0.028 to €0.089, in one short year. When you see earnings grow that quickly, it often means good things ahead for the company. Could this be a sign that the business has reached an inflection point?

One way to double-check a company's growth is to look at how its revenue, and earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margins are changing. While we note Facephi Biometria's EBIT margins were flat over the last year, revenue grew by a solid 62% to €5.0m. That's a real positive.

You can take a look at the company's revenue and earnings growth trend, in the chart below. To see the actual numbers, click on the chart.

Facephi Biometria isn't a huge company, given its market capitalization of €43m. That makes it extra important to check on its balance sheet strength.

Are Facephi Biometria Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

I like company leaders to have some skin in the game, so to speak, because it increases alignment of incentives between the people running the business, and its true owners. So it is good to see that Facephi Biometria insiders have a significant amount of capital invested in the stock. Indeed, they hold €14m worth of its stock. That shows significant buy-in, and may indicate conviction in the business strategy. Those holdings account for over 34% of the company; visible skin in the game.

Is Facephi Biometria Worth Keeping An Eye On?

Facephi Biometria's earnings per share have taken off like a rocket aimed right at the moon. That EPS growth certainly has my attention, and the large insider ownership only serves to further stoke my interest. The hope is, of course, that the strong growth marks a fundamental improvement in the business economics. So to my mind Facephi Biometria is worth putting on your watchlist; after all, shareholders do well when the market underestimates fast growing companies. Now, you could try to make up your mind on Facephi Biometria by focusing on just these factors, or you could also consider how its price-to-earnings ratio compares to other companies in its industry.

Although Facephi Biometria certainly looks good to me, I would like it more if insiders were buying up shares. If you like to see insider buying, too, then this free list of growing companies that insiders are buying, could be exactly what you're looking for.
