COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) _ American Electric Power Co. (AEP) on Thursday reported first-quarter profit of $592.2 million.
The Columbus, Ohio-based company said it had profit of $1.20 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, were 96 cents per share.
The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 97 cents per share.
The utility posted revenue of $3.93 billion in the period.
AEP expects full-year earnings in the range of $3.55 to $3.75 per share.
AEP shares have risen 7.5 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has increased nearly 7 percent. The stock has risen roughly 8 percent in the last 12 months.
