SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) _ Agilent Technologies Inc. (A) on Tuesday reported fiscal second-quarter profit of $182 million.
On a per-share basis, the Santa Clara, California-based company said it had profit of 57 cents. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were 71 cents per share.
The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 72 cents per share.
The scientific instrument maker posted revenue of $1.24 billion in the period, also falling short of Street forecasts. Six analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.27 billion.
For the current quarter ending in August, Agilent expects its per-share earnings to range from 71 cents to 73 cents.
The company said it expects revenue in the range of $1.23 billion to $1.25 billion for the fiscal third quarter. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had expected revenue of $1.27 billion.
Agilent expects full-year earnings in the range of $3.03 to $3.07 per share, with revenue ranging from $5.09 billion to $5.13 billion.
Agilent shares have risen 13% since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has climbed 13%. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $76.13, a climb of 10% in the last 12 months.
