TORONTO (AP) _ Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) on Thursday reported first-quarter earnings of $76 million.
The Toronto-based company said it had net income of 33 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, were 28 cents per share.
The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 14 cents per share.
The gold mining company posted revenue of $547.5 million in the period.
Agnico shares have climbed 3.5 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $43.48, a climb of 5 percent in the last 12 months.
